At the time of writing, it appears that the major networks are in the process of projecting/calling the Presidential election in all 50 states. This gives the following result:
This is a bit different from my final prediction. This is something I’ll explore at a later point (I’ll do an initial foray into this during the weekend).
Overall, the election has been called. Yes, President Trump has refused to concede and has filed multiple lawsuits to challenge the validity of the election. Some of these have already been dropped by the campaign or have failed in court. It seems unlikely, at the moment, that the current projections will be at odds to the vote when the electoral college meets on 14th December.
There is tonnes of news in Washington at the moment. Much like the abrupt resignation of Cummings here in the UK, there has been a blood bath in Washington in the past few days, with more to follow. I don’t imagine that these will have a considerable impact for the British viewer, in the same way that Cummings’ demise wouldn’t make any impact to an American. To ensure that I provide high quality blogs in a sustainable manner, I hope to publish three blogs this weekend:
- What’s going on now? This will include the latest issues in Washington, including the ‘disputed’ Biden transition, the White House reaction to the election and the positioning ahead of January.
- What’s coming up? This will include information about the electoral college vote and an intro/explainer for the upcoming Georgia special elections.
- Were the polls wrong? (Spoiler: no more than usual, for the most part)
I could give you a million blogs based on the issues that are currently in the news. I’d like to give a ‘State of the Nation’ style blog in a few weeks that will summarise the current priorities for both parties and how these will affect the next two years. I’m also open to suggestions for any ideas for blogs/explainers that would make this blog more accessible for you all.
Thank you for reading!
